Larry
A. Donoso, MD, PhD, JD, MBA
Dr. Larry Donoso holds degrees in Chemistry (B.S.), Experimental
Biology (M.S.), Biochemistry/Biology (Ph.D.), Medicine (M.D.), Law
(J.D.), and business (M.B.A.). He completed an Ophthalmology Residency
at the University of Louisville in Louisville, Kentucky in 1978;
a Research Fellowship in Ocular Oncology in 1979 at Wills Eye Hospital
in Philadelphia; and a Retina Fellowship in 1980 at the Vitreo-Retinal
Research Foundation in Memphis, Tennessee. Previously Dr. Donoso
was named the Thomas D. Duane, M.D., Ph.D. Professor of Ophthalmology
at Wills Eye Hospital and Jefferson Medical College.
In 1997, Dr. Donoso was honored by the Queens Medical Center at
the University of Nottingham, one of the United Kingdom's most prestigious
academic medical centers, with the establishment of the Larry A.
Donoso Laboratory for Eye Research. He is the first American to
be honored in such a way by the Queens Medical Center. This recognition
of his long collaboration in the creation of the new laboratory
and his efforts to advance eye treatment for patients around the
world was cited in the First Session of the U.S. Congress in 1997,
and remains a permanent part of the Congressional Record. Dr Donoso
was recently named as an honorary member of the Finnish Eye Research
Association.

Jay L. Federman,
MD
Jay Federman, M.D. is an ophthalmologist subspecializing
in the medical and surgical management of vitreo-retinal diseases
with special interest in the management of macular degeneration
and diabetic retinopathy. His research efforts are in the development
of minimally invasive vitreo-retinal surgical techniques and instrumentation,
and remote disease management via telehealth .
In 1970, Dr. Federman and co-workers developed the
Suction Infusion Tissue Extractor (SITE instrument) vitrectomy machine,
now used worldwide for ophthalmic microsurgery. He has been instrumental
in the development of various laser technologies used in ophthalmology
and other surgical specialties. He has received senior honor awards
from the American Academy of Ophthalmology and several NIH grants.
He has been responsible for the development of three companies in
the medical industry (SITE, SLT and Escalon) and the largest private
ophthalmologic eye care practice (Ophthalmic Partners of Pennsylvania)
in the Delaware Valley tri-state region. He is well published.
Dr. Federman was Director of the Research Department
of Wills Eye Hospital from 1987 to 1995 and Co-Director of the Retina
Service of Wills Eye Hospital from 1991 to 1999. He is a Director
of the Vitreo-Retinal Research Foundation of Philadelphia. He is
a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, American College
of Surgeons, American Ophthalmological Society, Association of Research
in Vision and Ophthalmology, Club Jules Gonin, Macula Society, and
the Retina and Vitreous Societies. He has been listed as one of
the Top Retina Doctors in the Philadelphia Magazine since the inception
of the survey as well as in Best Doc’s in America.

Dean Nakamura
Dean H. Nakamura is a member of Bell, Boyd &
Lloyd's Intellectual Property group resident in the firm's Washington,
D.C. office. He concentrates his patent practice in the chemical,
pharmaceutical, biotech and nanotech arts.
Before practicing law, he served as the director
of a Molecular Diagnostics Laboratory, was a scientist with an agricultural
biotech company and was an Assistant Professor at the University
of Tennessee School of Medicine. He has lectured on emerging company,
biotechnology and nanotechnology topics at Cornell University, Graduate
School of Medical Sciences; Johns Hopkins University, Graduate School
of Arts and Sciences; Howard University Graduate School; and various
trade organizations. |
